Morning sickness…sigh! Multiple trips to the bathroom and the beginning of a long relationship with the porcelain bowl. Take heart, it appears that morning sickness is associated with better pregnancy outcomes. Studies have also found that in women whose diet is mainly vegetarian without the dairy staples, morning sickness is uncommon. Food has a strong effect on your pregnancy so let us research little know facts about what they are good for.

Food and Pregnancy

Some people use ginger tea (but check with your doctor first) to soothe the morning sickness. For the sleepiness, several small meals throughout the day, high in carbohydrates and starch will alleviate the need to drop your head down at your desk. Lots of fruits and vegetables will also help build up your energy and detoxify you. They are also sources of vitamin B which will decrease the risk of neural tube defects (e.g. spina bifida) in your unborn child.

The foods you might want to avoid would be:

1. Liver, liver products, and vitamin A supplements can lead to birth defects as they are high in vitamin A.

2. While omega fatty acids are great for a growing child, shark, marlin and swordfish should be avoided as they tend to be high in mercury, which can lead to damage to the baby’s nervous system.

3. BEER! Sorry, but it really does make a difference in your child. Children born to drinking mothers (actively drinking during pregnancy) tend to be born smaller, have a less developed cognitive sense, and sometimes have birth defects. The nine-month abstinence will do you both some good, and if you do chose to keep drinking, let that be your decision, and let the child make his/her own decision. Allow them a fighting chance in our highly competetive world.

4. For those who have eczema, asthma or other food allergies, avoiding nuts and other allergy causing foods can help your child not develop allergies.

5. No raw foods as you could get listeria or another bacterial infection with dire consequences for your young child.

6. No smoking. See number 3. The reasons are the same.

Pamper yourself, find time to do the things you enjoy, and just celebrate you and the little one.  Eat healthy little meals, exercise (again, with a doctor's okay), and love the experience.  It is a blessing and a joy and should be treated as such.

Julian Rouas Paris Perfume

From a smoker’s point of view, the bans on smoking may be going to far. I can understand a ban on smoking indoors – I’m okay with that. But, what I can’t understand is a ban on smoking in the great outdoors. Most smokers are courteous and will walk away from a crowd in order not to offend anyone. But, what about people who follow you when you walk away from the crowd? Has this ever happened to anyone?

While attending my daughter’s softball game, I walked away from the crowd to smoke. I walked almost to the parking lot, where there was no one near me. I lit my cigarette and after a few minutes, a woman arrived pulling an oxygen tank. This woman saw me smoking and walked about 40 steps out of her way to walk near where I stood – for the single purpose of being able to make a comment about the fact that I was smoking in public!
So, my question is this. I understand why people who do not smoke do not want to be subjected to my second-hand smoke – and I respect that. But, what do you about people who choke you with their perfume? Where are the rights for people who suffer from migraines, asthma, and allergies?

I once worked in an office with 200-300 hundred other people. In the beginning, we had a smoking and a non-smoking break-room. The two break-rooms were on opposite ends of a hallway and well ventilated. But, that was not enough for the non-smokers. They wanted us outside of the building – exposed to the elements. But, this still wasn’t enough for them – because they liked to sit outside at the picnic tables in warm weather, and there we were. So, the non-smoker’s petitioned until the smoker’s had to completely leave the property in order to smoke. They won – or did they?

I suffer from migraines. One thing that causes the onset of a migraine is strong smells, especially in the form of perfume. I pulled into the parking lot one morning as another person was going in the front door. I stepped out of my car and was almost blown away in the wake of her perfume – a wake that followed her into the building. Sometimes, a migraine hits like a bomb – out of nowhere. One minute you are fine – the next minute, Wham! By the time I got to my desk, I could barely see – and a coworker had to drive me home. I lost a day of work because of perfume!

So, the smoker’s struck back – we petitioned until we succeeded in having perfume and strong colognes banned. And, I never had to miss work again. The smoker’s were still banned from the property, but so were the days of migraines for migraine sufferers and sneezing for allergy sufferers.

If you do not want to be around the smoke from my cigarette, just ask me politely. I will gladly walk away and enjoy my cigarette in peace. But, return the same courtesy. Don’t expose me to a migraine by wearing overpowering perfume or cologne. This infringes upon my rights – and the rights of all sufferers of migraines, asthma, and allergies. So, next time you bathe, before you cover yourself with that perfume or cologne that you think makes you more appealing, think about that person who may lose a day’s pay so that you can smell nice!

150 people were affected by a person who sprayed perfume. 34 of these people had to be taken to the hospital. This happened in Fort Worth, Texas but is by no means the only incident of people being sickened, literally, by perfume being sprayed.

We all remember the smokers being taken to task over their cigarette smoke which ended up with most of the country banning cigarette smoking in work places, bars, restaurants and most "public" areas. Not only that, cigarettes were deemed to be the biggest and baddest cause of almost every cancer known to man. We allowed those nasty ole' cigarette smokers to be taxed (what most would consider unlawfully) until they were forced to quit or they were forced to hide in their homes hoping that no one would get a "whiff" of smoke. Ah, we sure did teach smokers a thing or two about "their" smoke perfume!

All the while the chided smokers were trying to explain that almost any of them would willingly put out a cigarette if it bothered someone. They tried to explain that cigarette smoke, especially second hand smoke, was NOT the culprit of all cancers. People complaining of cigarette smoke were even asked if there could be another cause of their discomfort. Guess what? Perfume! Yes, perfume.

I remember one of the biggest anti-smoking people in our county was a large woman who did not know what a "spritz" of perfume was. She lathered it on until you were looking for the exits or a gas mask. But she was brazen enough to complain about someone smoking in a bar (that she never went in).

We've all been there, a restaurant, church, classroom, shopping aisle and yes a bar, when someone will walk in and the place turns to weeping eyes and sneezing. How well do you think people take it when asked to "remove" their perfume? But due to stories like the people above who fell ill due to someone's perfume I believe people are starting to look at perfume as the next cigarette.

Will they install a heavy tax on perfume like on cigarettes? Some have banned perfume in the workplace, will that carry on to public places as well? Will perfumed products like body and laudry soap be banned? Or maybe they will simply ban perfume on any level and in any product.

Perfume can make people sick. Perfume can make people sick that aren't even wearing it. More and more articles and studies are being written on perfume and the hazards of some of them. Yes, I vaguely see perfume as the new cigarette.

Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab and wearing what some have termed Hollywood's newest fashion accessory, the alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet. Because of its size, sources say Lohan remarked that it looked like a VCR for the ankle - not exactly the fashion accessory you want to highlight your latest Prada ensemble. FYI, the bracelet weighs all of 8 ounces.

What is an Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet?

The Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet is a device that monitors alcohol by measuring traces of ethanol (alcohol) vapors in the skin, which the body produces when when it is digesting alcohol. Once measured, the results are then sent to a computer for assessment.

The History of Alcohol Monitoring Devices

The idea of alcohol monitoring devices came about because all drunk driving cases involve alcohol consumption. The problem for courts arose in finding an effective way to monitor alcohol consumption by a defendant who was ordered to abstain. The Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet is also known by the acronym SCRAM, short for Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor system.

According to DUI.com, "Conventional alcohol testing has posed some challenges in the past because we would only know if a person consumed alcohol by administering a Breathalyzer test while the alcohol is still in a person's system."

SCRAM results are measured in real time by measuring the ethanol content as it moves through the surface of the skin. Results are reported as often as once an hour.

Monitoring blood alcohol levels via perspiration dates back to the 1930s. According to 1800DUILaws.com, "Several studies in the last three decades have shown that there is a fairly good correlation between the amount of alcohol in one's perspiration and the amount in one's blood."

Accuracy of the Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet

Much debate rages about the effectiveness of the measurements recorded via the bracelets because the way that alcohol moves through the system is extremely complex.

The biggest problem with this alcohol monitoring technology (SCRAM) is that it doesn't differentiate between alcohol consumed as a beverage (eg, wine, beer, liquor) and other types of alcohol (eg, the alcohol found in personal use products like hair spray and perfume).

Because SCRAM technology measures ethanol topically, eg, via the skin, other environmental factors are measured as well (eg, hair spray).

Currently, 43 states use the alcohol monitoring bracelet as part of their judicial system. The cost: Approximately $12/day. Taxpayer dollars don't pick up this tab, it is usually paid for by offenders.

Celebrities Who've Recently Sported the Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet

Lohan is not the only celebrity to sport this newest "accessory." Other celebrities who have recently been sentenced to wear the alcohol monitoring bracelet: Rapper and actress, Eve; comedian Tracy Morgan; and actress Michelle Rodriguez, to name a few.

A quesy tummy may indicate overindulgence but it might also mean a foodborne illness. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, 76 million Americans suffer such an illness each year. About 350,000 of these are hospitalized and 5,000 die. Foodborne illnesses, often called "food poisoning", can be serious and include such variants as salmonella, listeria, and staphylococococcus. All are caused by bacteria which often multiply when food is not handled in a safe manner. Those most at risk for foodborne illnesses include senior citizens, children under the age of ten, pregnant women, and those with a weak immune system (HIV patients, transplant patients, or those recovering from other serious illness).Symptoms of food poisoning can include an upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headaches, pus or blood in bowel movements, extreme exhaustion and even fever. Onset can occur as early as twenty minutes after eating a tainted food product or take as long as six weeks to appear. Most commonly, foodborne illnesses affect the digestive system in one to three days after ingesting the culprit. And, most cases are mild and can be treated at home. Rest and plenty of liquids are often enough to speed recovery but if symptoms are acute or worsen, it's best to consult a physician.

Simple steps can be taken to minimize and prevent the possibility of foodborne illness. The first rule is to keep clean and this means everything from the food preparer's hands to utensils, countertops, and serving plates. Anyone preparing food should wash their hands first with warm, soapy water. All utenils used in food preparation should be clean. When dealing with raw meat products, keep the utensils, i.e. knives, cutting boards, turning forks, etc, seperate from those used with other foods. Wash thoroughly after handling raw meat. Store fresh meats for no more than 1-2 days in the refrigerator before use and consult consumer guidelines for the limits on freezing meat products.

If heading out on a picnic or cookout in an outdoor location, be sure to store raw meats in a seperate cooler from beverages, salads, and other foods. If hand washing facilities are not available, bring along sanitizing hand wipes or moist towellettes to use after handling raw meats.

At home or away, be sure to check all meats to insure that they are cooked to a safe temperature. Failing to fully cook meat can allow dangerous bacteria to breed and cause illness. Although cases of E-coli have diminished in recent years, e-coli outbreaks can be deadly. Other illness including salmonella and listeria can also begin with undercooked meat. Beef - including hamburgers - should be cooked to at least 160 degrees Farenheit. Poultry should reach at least 170 degrees and pork should register 180 degrees or more. Hot dogs - although sold fully cooked - should be cooked until they reach 165 degrees. Insert a meat thermometer into the center of meat and leave for 30 seconds for an accurate reading. Meat thermometers are available in most discount stores, hardware stores, kitchen specialty shops and even many supermarkets at nominal cost. Remember that no matter how experienced the cook, it is impossible to judge whether meat is done by appearance alone.

Avoid transferring cooked meat to a platter that held the raw product. Do not use the same cooking utensils unless these have been washed in hot, soapy water.

A standard in food safety is to keep hot foods hot, cold foods cold. Refrigerators should be set to 40 degrees Farenheit. Higher temperatures can allow bacteria to grow. If unsure about the temperature in a home refrigerator, invest in a thermometer to gauge the exact temperature. When transporting foods in cooler, make sure that it is an insulated cooler. Pack foods in several inches of ice or ice packs. Replensish as needed to maintain a cold temperature.

When temperatures are below 90 degrees, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reccommends that food not be left out - at room or outside temperatures - for any longer than two hours. When temperatures soar above 90, an hour or less is the limit. This is because bacteria grows most rapidly between 90 and 100 degrees.Bacteria in room temperature foods can double every twenty minutes.

Foods that require extreme caution include mayonaise based products such as potato or macroni salads. These foods tend to break down and allow bacteria to breed quicker than other products.

Cleanliness, frequent hand washing, safe temperatures, and common sense are the key to preventing most foodborne illnesses. Prevention IS the best medicine for these illnesses which can range from mild to severe.

Unwind and chill

They used to be all over the place: dotted through the neighborhoods as prolific as the corner grocer, confectionery, and drugstore. They were scattered along highways like Route 66 and Route 40. All the fast food places were patterned after them. McDonalds used to be one. There were two of them close by where I lived: Ann's and Dixie's. They were small, with only two or three booths along the wall and a countertop. You could almost tell how good the food was going to be by the amount of grease on the cook's apron. And he would wipe your spoon on it if you asked him to. It was the place lunch ladies went to retire, bringing with them their pink shirts and white aprons and the mole on their chins.

You could get a hand-pattied burger there, sometimes put underneath a press, sometimes cooked on a bed of onions. The toasted side of the bun offered some protection, but in the end the bun was always soaked with grease. And then there was the chili. The chili, like its venerable counterpart, Chop Suey, was the waste collector. All the little bits of beef or burger that were to small or burnt to serve. Add some spices and some beans and you were ready to pour it on anything. There always seemed to be a good share of characters on the customer side of the counter too. The chain-smoking lady with the stained fingertips sipping her coffee, or the old man reading the newspaper and talking to himself. Of course we're talking about the American Diner.

A "true" diner is a prefabricated structure that is built at an assembly site and then transported to a permanent location to serve food. The word "diner" is a derivative of "dining car." Decommissioned railroad cars or trolleys were often converted into diners by those who couldn't afford to purchase a new one. Here are a few of the best ones in St. Louis:

Courtesy Diner 1121 Hampton. (314) 644-2600 This is a newer version of the old one that sat at the same location for many years. The new equipment shines better and the checkered floors are cleaner, but the comfort food hasn't changed. The bacon and egg breakfasts here are classic American and the pancake stacks are superb. One thing you might want to do if you are planning a trip to the Courtesy: starve yourself for a couple of days and then order a Slinger. A Slinger is a fat and calorie toxic heap of meats, beans, and cheeses, sometimes mixed with eggs. Sure to send those cholesterol numbers soaring and the taste buds hopping.

Eat-Rite Diner 622 Choteau. (314) 621-9621 The slogan here is: "Eat-Rite or Don't Eat At All." And if it's three o'clock in the morning, you'll probably take their word for it. Unlike Courtesy, Eat-Rite has counter seating only. With six hamburgers for only $4.50, or a Slinger with crumbled hamburger, sausage and bacon or a T-Bone steak for $6.95, you may want to get a to-go order and take it home instead.

Tiffany's 7402 Manchester. (314) 644-0929 Tiffany's, (and a whole block of business next to it) almost fell to the wrecking ball recently when a developer wanted to use eminent domain to build a shopping center. Neighborhood residents went up in arms and circulated a petition and posted signs all over the area, finally forcing city hall to back down. Tiffany's is one of the smallest eateries that I have ever been to, but it packs a powerful punch to the square inch. Omelets are under five bucks and a burger Slinger will run you about $1.50 to $2.95. If you sit at the counter you WILL be engaged in conversation and make new friends, you simply have no other choice.

White Knight Diner 1801 Olive. (314) 772-6100 Now known as the Super Sandwich Shop. Pretty standard diner fare, but the interesting thing about this place is it was the scene of the movie "White Palace" starring Susan Sarandon. The production company decided to film there when the local White Castle chain refused to accommodate them.

Relaxing

When our son was venturing into the world of solid food beyond infant cereal, my husband and I decided to make some baby food ourselves. It's an easy thing to do and, for some (like parents of multiples), can also be cost-effective.
There are a few guidelines and things to keep in mind however, when preparing baby food at home. Some things to consider:

· Commercially grown fruits and vegetables, both domestic and imported, tend to contain higher levels of pesticides than organically grown produce

· Trimming the fat from meat will help reduce pesticides, as they tend to concentrate in fatty tissues

· Organic foods have been found to contain lower levels of certain pesticides

· Processed foods (canned fruit for example) generally have lower pesticide residues than fresh foods

· All fresh produce to be used in preparing baby food should be peeled, washed with very diluted dishwashing detergent, and cooked well

· When making your own baby food, do not salt, sweeten or season the food at all.

Cooked, fresh vegetables and stewed fruits are the easiest foods to prepare for baby, and except for raw bananas, (which can be mashed with a fork) all fruits should be cooked until soft. Steaming is the best cooking method, as fewest nutrients and vitamins are lost this way. Refrigerate any food that is not used immediately, and check it well for signs of spoilage before giving it to baby. Unlike commercial foods, freshly made baby food contains no bacteria, so it will spoil more quickly. Use or freeze within one to two days of preparation to be safe.

Water or formula can be added to mashed foods to create the desired consistency, and food processors, blenders and strainers can also be helpful. Individual portions of the baby food can then be frozen in ice cube trays. Cover the trays with plastic before freezing. After freezing, place the cubes in a plastic bag, seal it and return it to the freezer. Be sure to label and date all foods, and use them within 1 month from preparation date. Do not thaw individual portions at room temperature; rather, thaw them in the refrigerator, double boiler or microwave (on the defrost setting).

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the following foods should not be prepared at home for baby food: beets, turnips, carrots, collard greens and spinach. In certain parts of the country, these vegetables contain large amounts of nitrates, a chemical that can cause an unusual type of anemia (low blood count) in young infants. Baby food companies are aware of this problem and therefore screen the produce they buy for nitrates. They also avoid buying these vegetables in parts of the country where nitrates have been detected. Since you cannot test for the chemical yourself at home, it's safer to use commercially prepared forms of these foods, especially while your child is an infant. If you should choose to prepare these foods at home anyway, serve them fresh and don't store any leftovers. Storage of these foods can actually increase the amount of nitrates in them.

In addition, there are some foods that should be avoided until at least the child's first birthday; some suggest waiting until the child is old enough to speak, and can then inform you of a "funny feeling" in their throat (due to swelling from an allergic reaction). Foods that may cause allergic reactions include egg whites, seafood, nuts, citrus fruits and tomatoes. Honey should also be avoided, as it may contain botulism spores that, though not harmful to adults, can cause infant botulism, a potentially severe illness. Honey is acceptable however, in processed foods such as honey graham crackers, and Honey Nut Cheerios.

If you are ever in Houston and are hungry for something exotic and tastey,  exit Highway 59 at Kirby, go north to Richmond, turn right, and on the left one will find one of India’s great import’s to Houston, Texas. The Khyber Grill has been serving Northern Indian food to hungry Houstonians of discriminating tastes for over a dozen years. It is considered by many the finest place to eat Indian food in Houston, if not in all of south east Texas,

Upon entering the Indian food establishment, one will be assaulted by the heady aroma of Indian spices and the sound of sizzling meat in the clay, tandoori ovens. If one is not already hungry for Indian food by that time, one will surely be within seconds of entering the Khyber Grill.

For an appetizer, one cannot go wrong with an order of samoosas, a flaky opastry filled with vegetables. A good alternative is an order of saag paneer, a kind of grilled cheese mixed with spices.

With the main meal, be sure to have some lassi, a kind of yogurt based shake. It comes sweet or salty, but this reviewer recommends the sweet.

For the main meal, one can order tandoori, a kind of North Indian barbeque. Bits of meat, such as chicken or lamb, are stuck on skewers and are grilled inside deep ovens made out of clay. The best the Khyber Grill has to offer is a garlicy Chicken Afghani. Chicken Tikka, and other tandoori dishes with lamb or sea food are also available.

Curry, a trdaitional staple of Indian food, is another good alternative. One can get them with chicken, lamb, or sea food in varying degrees of heat. The hottest curry would be a Vindaloo, which by all accounts is heavily spiced with gun powder. It is not for the faint hearted and should be accompanied by a full pitcher of water.

There are various vegetarian dishes available, including rice pillou. Main curry dishes come with sides of rice, raita (a kind of cool, yogurt salad) a cucumber and tomato based salad, and naan, a succulent Indian bread that is grilled in the tandoori oven. Orders of various kinds of naan, stuffed with onions or raisins and other good things, are also available.

There are some tasty desserts available as well. The rice pudding is especially delightful.

But sure to check the outside marquee. For more than seven years now, Khyber Grill's Mickey Kapoor has been using his marquee to taunt the neighboring Pappadeaux's. When the seafood restaurant wrote, "Hiring today 3 to 5," Kapoor replied, "My, You Do Start Them Young!" When Pappadeaux posted, "Happy Hour 4 to 6," Khyber responded, "DWI 8 to 12." When the establishment bragged, "Our Softshelled Crabs Will Reach Out and Grab You," Kapoor fired back, "Pervert!" People in Houston have been known to drive out of their way just to see what the restaurateur will come up with next, and so far the targets of Kapoor's barbs have taken them all in good stride.

Among all of the wonderful and memorable milestones your baby reaches, one of the most exciting is starting him on solid foods. Depending on what your pediatrician recommends, babies can start eating solids anywhere from 4 to 6 months of age, and rice cereal seems to be the top choice of first foods to introduce to your little one.

When my son turned 5 months old, I started feeding him rice cereal, followed by oatmeal, yellow veggies, green veggies, and then fruits. I waited the suggested five days in between introducing new foods to watch for allergic reactions but was always so excited and ready to see how he would like the next new flavor. He took to all of them, with the exception of strained peas, like a fish to water.

During this time, my best friend sent me a copy of the book, Super Baby Food, by Ruth Yaron and it quickly became my baby food bible. This book contains everything you need to know about feeding your baby and toddler. It includes suggestions as to what to feed your baby during each month of his first year, amounts, temperature, and much more to ensure your baby is receiving proper nourishment. This book also gave me an abundance of tips and ideas for making my son homemade baby food and quick meals and snacks that we could both enjoy.

Now, I am not the kitchen-wiz, Martha Stewart-esque type of mom, so at first I was a bit daunted by the thought of making baby food. I imagined myself covered head to toe in spinach and sweet potatoes while my steamer and blender worked overtime, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it really was.

I had been feeding my son Nature's Own organic baby food at the time I got the book, and he was enjoying it immensely as both nutrition and a facial masque! So, I decided to continue using all of the flavors that Nature's Own carries and that I would make homemade baby food in flavors that didn't already come in jars. I set up my rice/veggie steamer and cooked asparagus, broccolli, cauliflower, bell peppers, zucchini, kale, edamame, beets, and pumpkin, pureed them in the blender and poured each into ice cube trays. After they had frozen, I would transfer the veggie cubes to freezer bags, and voila homemade goodness! And all this would take me less than 20 minutes for about two weeks worth of veggies.

Now that my son is a toddler and eating chunky foods, I continue to implement a lot of tips from Super Baby Food to ensure that he is getting the best nutrition possible. I still steam and puree some veggies when he is going through a "no green food" stage so that I can hide them in his quesadillas or pasta sauce, and I also like to add nutritious supplements to his foods. For example, in his morning bowl of oatmeal I will add fruit, and flaxseed meal which is an excellent source of Omega-3's and lignins.

When I give him yogurt, I like to add extra fruit, mashed tofu for added protein, oat bran or wheat germ, and molasses which is high in calcium, iron, and potassium. I tend to stay away from pre-flavored yogurts since they have added sugar, and buy plain which is then sweetened by the fruit and molasses. Stonyfield Farms makes an organic yogurt for babies, Yo-Baby, which comes in fruit and vanilla flavors, so I will use that at times as well. For his veggies, rather than use butter, I like to add some olive oil and a dash of kelp powder which is a good source of iodine and promotes thyroid health.

We owe it to our children to give them the best start in life, and fueling their little bodies properly is essential. There are a plethora of wonderful books available that list healthy meal ideas, tips for making homemade baby food, and more. Super Baby Food happened to be my favorite and I recommend it without hesitation.

Perfume Fragrance !!! by pattpoom

Calvin Klein is a famous designer who has launched many clothing lines for men and women as well as fragrant lines including Calvin Klein Eternity perfume for women. The Calvin Klein Eternity perfume was launched in 1989 and remains an ever popular Calvin Klein perfume. With so many other options on the market for a buy is the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume a versatile fragrance for all women? Time to find out!

This Calvin Klein perfume comes in a plain off white box with Calvin Klein and Eternity in normal black text. The box of the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume is nothing really special compared to all the other scents on the market. The bottle of the Eternity perfume is square with a silver push down scent dispenser. Each dispense from the Calvin Klein perfume is perfect for those scent points on a lady. The bottle of the Eternity perfume is actually quite elegant. The glass of the Calvin Klein Eternity scent is very smooth and crystal like. The scent is a light gold-like color can be seen through the Eternity perfume bottle.

Sizes for the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume vary. The most popular size for the Eternity perfume is 3.4 fluid ounces. The Calvin Klein Eternity perfume also comes in 1.7 and 1.0 fluid ounces. Gift sets are also available for this Calvin Klein perfume and usually include the Eternity perfume, shower gel, and body lotion for women.

The scent of The Calvin Klein Eternity perfume is a fresh like scent. The Eternity perfume consists of refreshing spices, lavender, and amber. This Calvin Klein perfume also is infused with a blend of greens, crisp jasmine, basil, sage, and rosewood. Calvin Klein Eternity is a practical perfume for any women. The Eternity perfume is pretty versatile that it can be worn for day and night use. This Calvin Klein perfume is very mystique and not overbearing. The Eternity perfume does seem to be strong at first when putting it on; however, after an hour or so it wears off quickly with just a linger.

Calvin Klein Eternity can be found at most department stores such as: Wal-Mart, Macy's, The Bon-Ton, and numerous others. This Calvin Klein perfume is widely distributed. The Eternity perfume can also be found online at various vendors and on EBay. The cost of a 3.4 fluid ounce bottle of this Calvin Klein perfume varies amongst stores but runs roughly around $50.00.

I would recommend this Calvin Klein Eternity Perfume for those who shy away from floral scents. The scent of this Calvin Klein perfume aims more toward a shower fresh aroma then a girly-girl fragrance. The Eternity perfume is practical for everyday use for all women in all age groups.

Rower on the Perfume River by NaPix -- Hmong Soul

Many people find a perfume they love and use it for years. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this approach, one can run the risk of becoming so accustomed to the perfume that it is easy to become immune to the scent and over use it. All of us know the woman who practically knocks you over with her perfume and none of us want to be that woman! To create a unique touch acquiring a fragrance wardrobe is highly recommended. Just as jewelry or shoes can add a distinctive touch to your outfits, perfume has the power to do the same. You wouldn't wear the same thing to a formal dinner as you would to a sporting event so it certainly makes sense that the perfume you choose should vary according to place and time.

To understand how to choose the perfect perfume for the right occasion you need to understand the perfume categories. Perfume categories are growing by the day and they can and do sometimes overlap. Due to the rapidly growing popularity of niche perfumes and the advances in scientific research new and unique scent categories are created every day.

The Fragrance Foundation is the authority on all things perfume and their fragrance categories are as follows: (from the Fragrance Foundation website www.fragrance.org). These descriptions are listed on the first page of their excellent site filled with fantastic fragrance information.

Citrus
The light, fresh character of citrus notes (bergamot, orange, lemon, petitgrain, mandarin, etc.) is often combined with more feminine scents (flowers, fruits and chypre).

Green
Green notes are natural in character; often married with fruity and floral notes, they are modern and fashionable.

Flowery
An accord of different floral notes. Combines with any other family, flowery perfumes are universally commercial.

Flowery Aldehydic
Aldehydes add sparkle to flowery notes. Aldehydic creations radiate elegance and originality.

Single Floral
A composition based on the scent of one particular flower; the main examples are rose, jasmine, tuberose, lily of the valley or ylang.

Oriental
A blend of warmth and mystery. Musks and precious woods are complemented by exotic essences.

Semi-Oriental
Semi-orientals combine oriental notes with various florals. Top notes are often fresh.

Chypre
Based on a woody, mossy and flowery complex, sometimes with aspects of leather or fruits, chypre perfumes are rich and tenacious.

(From www.fragrance.org)

There are other categories, however, understanding these will help you to determine how to match your perfume to the occasion. Perfume websites also frequently describe scents by categories. The Luckyscent and Sephora websites both feature very helpful sections that will help you to choose a perfume by its fragrance family.

There are perfume classics and disasters in each of the categories. The informative book Perfume The Guide by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez is a wonderful resource that rates perfumes and can be an invaluable resource to help you avoid the disasters and discover the greats in each category.

Citrus and green scents are often good choices for the work place. Citrus fragrances are fresh and light and green fragrances can be warm and natural and convey sophistication.

Flowery, single note florals and flowery aldehydics are good choices for that all important first date or elegant sophisticated gatherings. Consider a perfume from this category if you want to stay within a more conventional fragrance family.

Chypre scents, popular in the thirties, are making a comeback in a big way. These fragrances are statement making and generally you will either love them or absolutely hate them. They convey an evocative and rich presence and the best are well balanced and beautiful. This category is a great choice when you want to distinguish yourself with a unique perfume.

Orientals. These are excellent choices for that special evening or when you want to add mystery and sex appeal to that little black dress. They are generally heavy and have a very strong presence so wearing them in the office may not be the best idea.

There are thousands of perfumes available and just a spray will help to create a mood make a memory or mark a special occasion. Don't limit yourself to just one...enjoy the possibilities!

The first reaction for most of us to the raw food movement might be utter disbelief. After all, how can human beings not only survive, but thrive, while eating nothing but raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains? (A strict raw food diet does not allow any cooked food, and it is a vegan diet, meaning no meat or dairy products.)

Dave Klein acknowledges that the diet is a major change for most people, but he also notes that even mainstream nutrition is moving toward raw fruits and vegetables, even if they don't take it to the extremes of raw food proponents. "Even the mainstream sources are telling people to eat more fruits and vegetables," he explains.

But find a raw food follower, and Klein says it's also likely that you'll be looking at someone who is healthy, happy, and full of energy. "Raw fooders are mostly slim, vibrant, and healthy."

If the call for more energy makes you want to reach for your double-cream latte, consider Klein's estimate that as many as three quarters of current raw food followers chose the diet as a result of severe health problems, many of which were caused by the typical American diet.

In fact, Klein's own story is one he aptly describes as being saved "at the 11th hour" by his discovery of raw food eating.
In his late teens, Klein began a ten-year odyssey of increasing illness. He reached a health and personal nadir when, while still in his 20s, doctors gave him a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, then recommended removing his colon or taking fistfuls of experimental, immune-suppressing drugs.

Klein came to realize that his predicament was directly tied to his diet, which was full of a lot of red meat and junk food.
Over the next several years, Klein's energy returned, his body healed, and he began to incorporate exercise and yoga into his regular routine.

Today, Klein is healthy, happy, and a strong proponent of the raw food diet. He is also the editor and publisher of Living Nutrition(R), an ad-free magazine dedicated to helping others along the raw food path. He also works with individuals who want to change their diets to raw foods, and with others operates raw-passion.com and the annual "Rawstock" festivals. (The next Rawstock occurs in August in Klein's home base of Sebastopol, making the North Bay city a veritable capital of raw food culture.)

Although dedicated to the raw food cause, Klein is definitely not shrill. "Some people make a gradual change which can take 10 or 20 years, while other people will plunge right into it," he says. "Some people find the detox too difficult. Some people fall off the path for social reasons." But Klein focuses more on the progress, not the status. "But if they include more fruits and vegetables, year by year, they improve." He also acknowledges that some followers allow limited amounts of dairy products, cheese or yogurt, for example, rather than a strictly raw food approach.

But one part of the raw food experience seems to include a reduction in speed. "One of the goals is to enjoy eating without being rushed, without the television on. The goal is to become healthier and more relaxed."

Klein also encourages people to work with a health coach familiar with the raw food diet, such as himself. At the same time, he discourages a recipe-book approach. "Raw food recipe books tend to be designed to sell, so they include attractive recipes that have too many ingredients or seem too complex, and they put people off," he explains.

Advisors such as himself, he points out, "teach people simple eating, so everything digests and we don't eat haphazardly."

The boat people on the Perfume River by NaPix -- Hmong Soul

The cost of perfume is so astronomically high that many people do not realize how inexpensive perfume can be to make, particularly if you're making several blends. For other people, finding the ideal perfume that doesn't irritate the nose can be a challenge. Making your own perfume at home can be an easy way to make the perfect blend, put it in a beautiful bottle, and get the whole thing cheaper than at a department store. Here's how to do it:

Choose Your Scent
Perfume can be made from either perfume oil or essential oil. Essential oil is extracted directly from the source and contains oils from plants and flowers. It tends to be expensive because it is extracted directly from the source but is generally higher quality and has a stronger scent than perfume or fragrance oils. Conversely, fragrance or perfume oils are highly concentrated blends of scents. Simply put, the perfume is already made for you in an oil form and all you have to do is put it into a carrier. If you're concerned about your ability to get the fragrance just right, perfume and fragrance oils may be a better choice. If you're looking for a very specific scent, though, or are interested in experimenting with different scents, essential oil is likely the best choice. In either case, you can find discount oils on this site and a quick internet search will yield you many other excellent supplier choices.

Experiment with Combinations
The next step is to decide how you want to combine the fragrances. A single note fragrance is one that contains only one scent, like grapefruit, lilac, etc. Most perfumes have multiple notes. Florals often combine different flowers with citrus for example. Try combining your fragrance oils with a dropper in various combinations and when you find something you like, you've found the concentration of oils you want.

Mix Your Perfume
Oils need to be mixed with a carrier that dilutes them. Otherwise they will be too strong and can cause skin problems. Body mists typically mix perfume oils and water. Perfume mixes oils with some kind of alcohol. Perfumer's alcohol is the best choice and can be bought very inexpensively online. Pure grain alcohol can also be used, as well as vodka or even rubbing alcohol. Make sure to smell the combination of oil and alcohol to make sure the scent of alcohol is not overpowering. When making perfume, you will need to experiment with different concentrations of oil. More oil equals a stronger, longer lasting perfume. Never make your perfume more than 30% fragrance oil or it can be toxic and too strong. Most perfumes use only 3-5% but you may want a stronger perfume.

Wait
After you have mixed oil and carrier, you will need to wait for the fragrances to combine together. Most experts recommend waiting six weeks, though waiting only a few days can be adequate time in most cases. Keep your fragrance sealed and in a dark area while waiting, and check it regularly to see if it smells right. When the scent begins to smell like a perfume you want to wear, you're done. All you have to do now is find a pretty perfume bottle and enjoy the lovely smell around you!

Miniature perfume dispensers by williamcho

When I discovered that the perfume I was about to review had a ginormous price tag of $1,500... I nearly had a heart attack. Especially seeing how my mom picked this bottle up for only $1.00. Yep, $1.00 for a $1,500 bottle of perfume.

It pays to shop at thrift stores girls! So nyah to everyone who judged me based on my thrift store purchases.

For $1.00 approximately one week ago my mom walked out of our local thrift store with a pretty bottle of perfume. Today while looking for pricing information and availability of this perfume, I realized what she had found was more than what we could of ever imagined.

A 0.5 ounce bottle of Donna Karan Chaos. It turns out DKNY Chaos is a rare, highly sought after, discontinued, expensive fragrance. Who knew?!

Appearance:

The 0.5 ounce bottle is probably the most unique thing about it, and with momma Dukes being a collector of crystal, she bought it for it's appearance. Who would of thought at the time that her $1.00 find was seriously a down payment on a car?! Woo-Hoo! The 0.5 ounce bottle comes in a perfume bottle made of Falcon Crystal. It is long, and narrow, and quite frankly the most beautiful bottle in her collection.

Due to it's narrow crystal slim cut, it cannot be placed upright. You can however leave it in the box, or place it down.

The Scent:

Now when I first inhaled DKNY Chaos, I was not very impressed. To me Chaos smelled like pencil shavings, and burnt wood. Chaos apparently is not for me. I love woody outdoor scents, but Chaos is too strong for my likings. It just reminds me of a lumber yard; for some this is a lovely fragrance...but me...meh.

After discovering that Chaos was so pricey, I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt. I mean hell, there has to be a reason it's so costly. After giving Chaos another try, (which was hard to do, seeing how every frigging spray shot cost nearly $70.00 or more per shot, considering 0.5 ounces does not get you far. However I had to try Chaos once more for this reviews sake).

A more elaborate summary of the rare Chaos scent:

For the first 2 hours I smelled like pencil shavings. However Donna Karan Chaos took on another mild scent the longer I wore it. I was now able to smell a more subtle amber scent, which was likable...but not worth $1,500!

As more time progressed the woodsy scent turned into a more subtle cedar mixed with musk. I actually began to like it more and more as the initial scent faded.

As I looked into Chaos even more, I learned that it contains the rare Agarwood as a fragrance note. Agarwood makes Chaos smell so darn woodsy. It comes from the Asian Aquilaria tree. Due to the low number of these trees, Agarwood is more rare, which makes it more expensive...which is why Donna Karan's Chaos is so highly sought after...yet discontinued.

Last:

DKNY Chaos stood with me for the entire day, and was still detectable into the night.

Pricing and Availability:

DKNY Chaos is very expensive, and only serious lovers of the scent would pay such a high price. The 0.5 ounce Falcon Crystal bottle of Chaos goes for around $1,500, or less on ebay. However I learned that larger bottle of Chaos sell for a bit less. I assume it is because the larger bottles are mode of glass, and not crystal. Either way though, Chaos; no matter what size bottle it comes in, asks for a hearty lump of cash.

For those interested in perhaps purchasing Chaos, click here.

Recommendation:

DKNY Chaos is expensive, for some worth the price tag. For me though...moms bottle is landing a spot on ebay. I find that the price is just too ridiculous for what you are actually getting.

The Perfume by MizzChievouz

We will look at a number of different recipes, not just for perfumes, but colognes and body sprays as well, which can easily be made in your own home.

The first recipe we will be looking at is the basic perfume recipe. This is the simplest of all perfume recipes that you can reproduce at home.

The ingredients you need are as follows:
1. 2 cups of water
2. 2 cup fresh chopped flower blossoms (you may want to use such flowers as lavender, lilac, orange blossoms or honeysuckle).
Now for the directions:
1. In a bowl, put a cheesecloth (make sure that the edges of the cloth hang over the side of the bowl). Fill this with 1 cup of flower blossoms (you choose) and then pour water over them until they are completely covered.
2. Cover the bowl and allow it to sit overnight. The following day, take hold of the edges of the cheesecloth hanging over the side of the bowl and lift it up, then gently squeeze the scented water produced into a small pot.
3. You will now need to place this water into a pot and allow it to simmer until there is about 1 teaspoon left of the liquid. Allow the solution to cool, and place it in a small bottle. Perfume made this way normally has a shelf life of about 1 month.

The following recipes are all as easy to make as the basic recipe, but they will all be a little more fragrant because of the ingredients used. They also include either essential or fragrance oils as part of the recipe. The first will bring the smell of the orient to you.
Ingredients
1. 4 drops of Sandalwood
2. 4 drops of Musk
3. 3 drops of Frankincense
4. 2 teaspoons of Jojoba oil (carrier oil to be used when using essential or fragrance oils in perfume making).
Directions:
1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a bottle and shake well.
2. Place them in a dark colored bottle, and then allow the perfume to settle for at least 12 hours.
3. Once it has been stood for 12 hours or more, you should now store it in a cool dry area.

The next recipe is also simple to make, but uses not only essential/fragrance oils, but also water and alcohol, as previously mentioned.
Ingredients:
1. 2 cups distilled water
2. 3 tablespoons of Vodka
3. 5 drops of Lavender
4. 10 drops of Chamomile
5. 10 drops of Valerian
Directions:
1. Mix all these ingredients together in a bottle and shake it well.
2. Transfer the mixture to a dark colored bottle, and again, as with the previous recipe, allow the bottle to stand for 12 hours or more.
3. Once the bottle has stood for the recommended 12 hours, it can be used, and then stored in a cool dry area.

The next recipe we are looking at is in fact not a perfume, but a cologne, and contains lemon as the main ingredient.
Ingredients:
1. 1 cup of distilled water
2. 1 cup of Vodka
3. 3 drops of Lemongrass
4. 10 drops of Lavender
5. 10 drops of Lime
Directions:
1. Combine the essential oils with the vodka in a bottle and shake well.
2. Now set this aside for 3 weeks.
3. After 3 weeks, you will need to add the distilled water and then let it stand for a further week.
4. It is important that you shake the bottle once a day while it is standing over the 4 week period.
5. After 4 weeks, you can transfer the mixture to dark bottles for storage, or keep the mixture in the bottle it is in, in a dark cool place.

The final recipe provided below is one which will produce a body splash, rather than a perfume, and has a citrus aroma to it.
Ingredients
1. 2 cups of distilled water
2. 3 tablespoons of vodka
3. 1 tablespoon each of lemon and orange peel (which must have been finely chopped)
4. 5 drops of Lemon Verbena
5. 10 drops of Mandarin
6. 10 drops of Orange
Directions
1. Mix the fruit peels with the vodka in a jar, cover and let it stand for 1 week.
2. After the week, strain the liquid and add the essential oils and distilled water to it.
3. Now let the mixture stand for a further 2 weeks, and make sure you shake the jar well once a day during this time.
4. Place the final solution after the 2 weeks in a dark bottle(s), or keep it in a cool dark area.

As you can see making your own perfumes, colognes or body sprays is simple, and once you've made your first lot and tried it yourself, you will soon want to be making more.

Electronic Perfume by Still The Oldie

I was at Walmart the week of Mothers day and we were shopping for mom. I was standing in the book section and realized that I was in need of some new perfume. So I scurried out of the book section and went right over to the beauty aisle to see what they had. I was stopped by the new Halle perfume advertisement and was a bit intrigued. I didn't know that she was even coming out with a new fragrance. I had heard that Halle was a work in progress but I wasn't expecting it so soon.

Walmart had a sample bottle out in the open for people to try it out. So I sprayed a little bit on my wrist, aired it out and sniffed. I was in heaven. I wasn't expecting Halle to smell the way it did but it did. So I threw it in my cart and told my husband I wanted Halle for Mother's day.

Now the one thing I wasn't happy about was the fact that Halle was $16 for just a few ounces of perfume. I took a look at my small bottle and was a little skeptical but I figured that I wouldn't have to spray a lot since it was a heavy but sweet fragrance. I was expecting for Halle to stay on me at least half of the day but It didn't. I ended up having to spray myself at least twice a day to keep the fragrance smellable.

Halle smelled extremely good and that wasn't something I could deny but I wasn't too happy with the small bottle or the fact that It didn't stick that well. I'm used to wearing Curve crush, which stays on ALL day.

I personally don't think that Halle is a good buy during the Summer time because it's so sweet. I didn't realized just how sweet it was until I had a barbecue and sprayed it on. The mosquito's ate me alive with no remorse what so ever.

As far as smell is concerned, I loved the way Halle smelled. Even my husband was in love with the smell and he is picky when it comes to perfume and women. I just don't think that it's worth buying all the time. I spend good money on good perfume that sticks to my body with ease and Halle isn't one of those perfumes.

Perfume .. by || Msh3L ||

My mom and I are thrift store junkies. We go in looking for deals that you cannot find anywhere else. Sometimes we get extremely lucky, and other times we come out empty handed.

We hit this one local thrift store up weekly because they seem to have new inventory every Friday. Hitting the thrift store up on a Saturday can sometimes result in winning the mini designer lottery. At times we find two dollar designer clothes, bags, and sometimes; perfume.

I was not able to hit up the local spot this week, but my mom did.

She rushed inside with a paper bag filled with what appeared to be designer perfumes. I could hear them clanging against one another and I could not wait to see what she had gotten hold of. I looked inside of the bag, and she huddled around it, as if she had to protect her findings from me.

She hit the designer perfume gold mine, and she bought all she could find, no wonder she didn't want me looking in. She wanted them ALL for herself.

Inside I noted all types of brands that I knew I would like. From Chanel, to Donna Karan. Some of the bottles were half empty, and others still had their seals on them. Some we already had, and some we had never heard of.

Amarige by Givenchy was one perfume in particular that I had never heard of. I have heard of Givenchy in the past, but I was never familiar with the brand, or this particular scent.

Appearance:

Amarige came in its original red box, with gold lettering. A bit of dust had collected on the box, but inside the perfume was barely touched.

The bottle itself is shaped like a human heart (at least that s what it looks like to me). The bottles top looks like a soft serve ice cream swirl, which is actually sort of pretty, and unique.

My Use:

I sprayed some of the rusty water colored perfume on to my wrists, and immediately got hit with the overpowering scent of grandmothers. It was like a granny festival on my wrist. This crap stunk, and it stunk bad.

It has that first kick of granny, then a high impact punch of rotting dried up roses, and...rust.

Good find mom!

Pricing and Availability:

After sniffing this horrendous granny spray I of course had to look the brand up before writing this review. I wanted to bring to you the price of this gunk, and where to find (eh-hem...avoid) this perfume.

Amarige by Givenchy can be found at any local perfume store, ranging from $10 to a jaw dropping $70.00 (for the granny gift set).

Overall:

Amarige by Givency smells like your grandma. It stinks to the high heavens, and it lasts a really, really long time. If you want to test the scent, make sure you DO NOT spray it on your clothing, as it will stay...till you wash the clothing.

-I guess if you find it at a thrift store; barely used, something must be wrong.

Recommendation:

Negative.

Amarige by Givenchy is definitely not a perfume I would recommend. (Maybe for Granny, seeing how that's about the only person who would like this one).

Avon cat perfume bottles by Birdie2533

Perfume Shop 1:12 Scale Miniature by MiniatureMadness

Exotic perfume: Blooms of the Cannonball tree (Couroupita guianensis) by crlpix (Away)

It's happens to all of us. You're standing in a room or passing by a crowded street or sidewalk and all of the sudden, a truly tantalizing scent catches you completely by surprise. Almost unconsciously, your head swivels as you crane your neck to catch a glimpse of the one who nearly lifted you off your feet with such an arousing fragrance.

The general consensus seems to point out that scent is the strongest sense tied to memory. Selecting the right fragrance to suit you becomes a sort of art as you attempt to find the perfect blend between flirty flowers, juicy fruits, musk and more.

Once you find the ideal scent to match your personality - sexy, playful, subtle and so forth - you can begin to take advantage of the powerful impact fragrance has on members of the opposite sex. Consider investing in a travel-sized vial of your preferred perfume as well, so you can easily transport it and always have it with you for a quick freshening up.

As you become comfortable with your new fragrance, take things to the next level by introducing it into your love life. If you won't see your sweetheart for a number of days or weeks, be sure to pen a passionate love letter, and don't forget to spritz a little of your perfume on the stationery before you pour your heart onto it. If you're feeling especially daring (or sappy) you can complete the romantic effect by sealing the envelope with a lipstick smooch.

Another great tactic is to spray a bit of perfume on yourself just before you borrow an article of his clothing. If you'll be wearing his jacket for a while in the colder weather, spray a little perfume on the back of your neck without getting any directly on his coat. This way it will subtly adhere to the coat's collar so he notices your fragrance and thinks of you immediately the next time he wears it. If you forget to bring your pajamas and have to borrow a t-shirt one night, just spray a tiny bit of your fragrance on your body to gently introduce it onto his clothing. Whether he wears the shirt again or washes it when he gets it back, he's sure to recognize your fragrance.

For the grand finale, linger in bed just a little while longer than your honey does. When he leaves the room to brush his teeth or shower, spritz some perfume on his pillow, either on top or bottom, or a little bit on both sides. This tactic is especially effective if you won't see each other for a little while, because you know you will be the last thing he thinks about before he falls to sleep, and also the first thing he imagines when he wakes up. As soon as his head hits the pillow you will be on his mind, and if not in his arms, what better place to be?

Seductive Places to Target with Your Perfume:
- Spray a little perfume on letters and birthday or holiday cards.
- Let a little of your fragrance remain on his clothing that he lets you borrow.
- Apply a little perfume to your pulse points while you are in his car so the fragrance lingers just a bit.
- Leave him a gentle, sexy reminder by spraying a little bit of perfume on his pillow, especially when you won't be around.
- If he keeps a blanket in his car or draped across his couch, be sure to introduce just a touch of your favorite fragrance so he thinks of you right away when he uses it.

Perfume is a wonderful invention, allowing you to make your presence known, even in your absence! Get creative and realize that this aromatic accessory can enhance your romantic side, intrigue your partner and bring your face to mind even when you aren't physically present. Instigate more intimate moments with a spritz here and there of a sexy, flirty fragrance. You won't regret it!
